“She stood puzzled as she tried to take it all in, it was there, and then again it was not. She was excited about the invite to the showing, but was even more pleasantly surprised to see the revitalization of not only underused techniques, but also the village area that was undergoing the same rehab.” Is what I get on first impact.

The vision is quite clear; one would actually have to be blind not to see it, but… I count 1, 2, 3… Are we missing a season? Yes, indeed we are, and that literally rips 1 ½ stars away from what would have been a 5 star vision, leaving this with a 3 ½. This is showing quality work, but as I illustrated in my initial impact, the missing panel deficiency would have been embarrassing to try explain, and would have left viewers, critics, and potential customers and benefactors disappointed in the lack of follow through in the vision.

Though not entirely original, the combination of the medium, the presentation, the vision (still important here, even though lacking) give this a solid 4 stars. I could have gone another half-star if the panels had been a bit larger, and 5 stars would have been well deserved if the panels were huge. The size of the panels plays into many things, sometimes small is good for great detail, but for what I would describe as “Epic” here (The transition of, or circle of, life) A large canvas usage here would have been earth shattering, and would be blowing people back in wonder. This vision is powerful, but oh so restrained, oh so suppressed by not being allowed to “Grow” into the depths of the wall presented upon. Could you visualize the majesty of this if it were on custom made 36 x 48’s? Yes, it would be a daunting task for the artist, and like Rome, it would not be done in a day, but once the 4 were complete, they would demand criticism at a Masterpiece level.

What could the Technique possibly be if it is “Showing/Gallery Quality” work? 5 Stars of course. The artist appears to be acquainted with, and very much comfortable with the medium, and how it can be used to translate the mind to the medium.

The impact takes a crushing blow from the lack of completeness of vision, it should be a one star here for something as unforgivable as missing a panel, but the missing panel can be forgiven because of the potential it has if made a WIP, and a fresh new look taken to see where potential was lost, where and how it can be recovered, and the depth of commitment willing to be invested into bringing it up to a whole new level, and a representation of the artist’s work as “Final”. So until that change is made, it gets a shaky 3 stars, which is generous, but I think the artist deserves the extra two stars for “Going there”, and reserving the other two stars for the day the artist might “Arrive”.
